This program is an introduction to figure skating for those who have completed the CanSkate program. While most of the Pre-Bronze program instruction occurs on the ice, skaters now begin off-ice training. Strong basic skills are enhanced with additional instruction on spins and jumps. Skaters will be on the ice twice a week with each class fully coached. Since this program is fully coached, private lessons are not available. The Georgina Skating Club teaches the following disciplines in a group format: Freeskate - single jumps, basic spins and field moves Edge & Turn - basic skating skills, edge control, form and balance Stroking - developing power, speed, agility and form.

Program Description:

This program is for skaters demonstrating strong basic skating skills. These skaters are now ready to begin working in the categories of Skate Canada’s STAR 1-5 Program. Our Bronze program takes place over 3 days per week with group instruction on Mondays and a fully coached session on Saturdays. In addition, since off-ice training is such an important part of a skater’s training, we are pleased to include this in our Bronze program on Wednesdays. At this level, skaters also have the option of adding extra training (through open sessions or other programming) should they wish to do so. Private or semi-private lessons are recommended for this level.

Program Description:

This program is designed for new skaters 3-5 years of age.

Previous experience is not required and parents are not on the ice. Each 30-minute class includes a warm up, group

instruction and activity time. Incentives are given to each skater at the end of class. Coaches use teaching aids such as

hula-hoops, hockey sticks, bubbles and balls along with circuits to encourage continuous movement.

All Georgina Skating Club coaches are certified with Skate Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada. They are

also First Aid Certified.

Previous experience is not required and parents are not on the ice. Each 30-minute class includes a warm up, group

instruction and activity time. Incentives are given to each skater at the end of class. Coaches use teaching aids such as

hula-hoops, hockey sticks, bubbles and balls along with circuits to encourage continuous movement.

All Georgina Skating Club coaches are certified with Skate Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada. They are

also First Aid Certified.

Our Intro to Skating Program has three different levels:

Red – Skaters in this level are new to the program

Yellow - Skaters in this level can stand up without assistance

Green - Skaters in this level can skate the width of the rink

**Assessments occur daily and skaters may be moved from one colour to another. All skaters must wear CSA approved

This program is designed for skaters with an interest in entering hockey programs.

CanHockey is full of action with a focus on developing basic skating skills including balance, power, agility, speed and

endurance. Skaters must be able to skate the length of the ice and stand up unassisted before entering this program. For

safety reasons, full hockey equipment is required.
